Glow and Fade

Great photographs are one that shake you, that make you quake. They stun you, make you smile, fill you with warmth. In short, great photographs make you empathetic and hungary for more.
I apologize for my absence; I was away and then was lazy. While I was away, I saw a Richard Avedon exhibit and was so shook by the experience, I had to share it with all.

Richard Avedon was a photographer, primarily from the 105-'s to the 1980's, who took really, really good photographs. His work has been featured in hundreds of magazines, and since his death in 2002, hundreds of museums and art galleries.

Perhaps best well known, his infamous photograph of Marilyn Monroe has captured the most true, the most heart breaking, the most fragile and lonely part of the most giddy girl in Hollywood.

Good photographers are a dime a dozen. Just point and shoot. Even I have captured some good ones, and I am an idiot with technology. Great photographers, on the other hand, are rare and special.

Criminal

What ever happened to Fiona Apple? I've just downloaded "Criminal" music video from online and I cannot stop watching.

Here is "Criminal". She's crazy skinny but very intriguing.

Gotta love those Legs

Jenny Lewis is awesome for many, many different reasons. First off, she makes really good music. Secondly, she's pale and brunette/red-haired(like me!) Thirdly, she is a former child star-turned musician (but she's successful). Mostly, however, she is relatable enough to make her likable and just fucked up enough to keep her interesting.

Here is her music:
"Rise Up With Fists"

Also, she has awesome, awesome legs. And she likes to show them off whenever she can.

Fuck Fashion Week

Instead of talking about Fashion Week, I am going to tell all about this little French jewel of a girl named Uffie. She is a spunky little hip-hopper who's bffs with Justice, so you know her music's going to be a little different and crazy good.

For her music, CLICK HERE!

Ellen Von Unwerth

My roommate told me I'd like this new photographer she had just discovered.

My roommate was right.

"Holly, you're drunk" "True. True but irrelevant."

I have to be honest, all my life I have always wanted to be an alcoholic, older trophy wife. Specifically in the 1960's. The ultimate WASP. Think Mrs. Robinson from The Graduate, Lucille Bluth from Arrest Development, or any of the many extras from Breakfast at Tiffany's. I think it might be that all of these older women seem so much more interesting than everyone else at the parties.

I've found some wonderful pictures, I believe, to try to explain why I feel this way. The first is from a photo layout of the Jolie-Pitts from about 4 years ago. The second are some stellar pictures from an infamous party, hosted by Capote called the Black and White Ball.

....Brilliant, no?

Also, this last one's for Salome_V.

Hats!

I love hats. Maybe it's a Jackie O. or Lucille Ball obsession, or maybe I just desperately want to be British. Bouh! I just find something so highly fashionable, stylish, and beautiful about a well worn hat, well placed taffeta, and, of course, the elegant posture that accompanies a beautiful woman in a stupendous hat. And honestly, what Karl did this last season at couture week was amazing. Thusly said, Urban Outfitters in the U.S. is offering some really great head pieces. Small, sweet, and completely wearable, I love these little decorations!
